

Dorothy I. Elder, 87, passed away Friday, October 07, 2011 at The Sweet Life at Rosehill, Shawnee, Kansas, where she was living. Graveside Services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 12th, at Leavenworth National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to Odyssey Hospice, 8735 Rosehill Road, Suite 250, Lenexa, Kansas, 66215. Dorothy was born November 4, 1923 in Kansas City, Kansas to George Thomas and Martha Ellen (Herron) Mansfield. She had lived most of her life in Texas, but had also lived in Oklahoma, and had lived in the Kansas City Area for the last 6 years. She enjoyed painting china plates, pitchers, cups and vases, liked shopping, and she was a Life Member of The Community of Christ Church, most recently with the Bonner Springs, Kansas Congregation. She was preceded in death by her 1st Husband, Joe Cowdrey; a daughter, Sharon Cowdrey Anthonisen; a sister, Mary Tedford; and her 2nd Husband, Joe Elder. Survivors include 2 sons, Victor Cowdrey and his wife Janice, Vince Cowdrey and his wife Jan; 2 grandchildren, Matt and Katy; and 3 great-grandchildren, all of Texas; a son-in-law, Ted Anthonisen of Tennessee; 2 nieces, Diana Whitcher and her husband Terry, Vickie Davila and her husband Rey; and 3 nephews, Ron Hopper and his wife Joyce, Wayne Hopper and his wife Peggy, and Steven Hisel and his wife Donna.
