Dorothy Ruth (Rusconi) Gregory, 92, passed away Saturday, August 16, 2014 at her home at Villa St. Francis care facility in Olathe, Kansas. Dorothy was the daughter of Leora (Metcalf) and Charles Rusconi. She was a lifelong resident of Kansas City, Kansas with her husband of over 60 years, Loren Gregory. Dorothy worked in the retail industry for over 30 years for Macy’s and Dillard’s. She greatly treasured her faith community at Covenant Baptist Church and all of her service to the Lord through her Covenant family. She was a fiercely loving and dedicated mother to four children, 13 grandchildren and dozens of great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great nephews. You were never a stranger when it came to Dorothy, as everyone she met was greeted with a loving hug, great conversation, and just about everyone quickly became family. The front door was always open for friends with a glass of sweet tea when you arrived. Dorothy loved supporting and spending time with all of her babies at their school plays, games, musical programs, graduations, birthdays, weddings, or just sitting on the front porch sharing stories and secrets. At family dinners, even if the table was full, she always made room for more when extra friends and family arrived. She deeply treasured her time with her loved ones. Her faith, dedication, and service to God was a gift she shared with all of her family. Morning prayers and Bible reflection were a part of her daily routine. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her siblings: brothers Chuck, Jim, and Johnny, and her sister Lilly (Rusconi) Jobe. Dorothy leaves behind her children: Phil (Marilyn) Gregory of New Mexico, Peggy Henre of New Mexico, Linda Gregory of Kansas City, Kansas, and David (Anita) Gregory of Kansas City, Kansas. Her grandchildren include: Phil’s kids: Keith, Kelly, Kevin, and Korey Gregory and their families; Peggy’s kids: Matthew Arbogast, Mark, Michelle, and Michael Henre and their families; Linda’s daughter: Amy (Gregory) Vicker and her family; and Dave’s kids: Angie, Peter, Paul, and Annie Gregory and their families. She also leaves behind many beautiful great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and friends. Grandma G., your story is our heritage and your love is our legacy. While our hearts deeply ache, we know you are finally at peace and reunited with the loved ones you have missed so much. We are so blessed to have you as our guardian angel. The family would like to thank Villa St. Francis and Catholic Community Hospice for the wonderful, dignified, and compassionate care Dorothy received.
