Irma graduated in May 1950 from High School and attended 1 year of community college.
Irma married September of 1953 to Bill Richardson (deceased).
Daughters: Sandra (Sandy) Rae Richardson born Nov. 16, 1955 (deceased), Son-in-law – Gary Boring
Susan Kay Richardson born April 21, 1960 (deceased)
Both daughters accepted Jesus and were baptized at Raytown Baptist Church.
Irma was saved as a young mother in March 1957, when she attended a revival meeting with her mother. She was baptized at the First Baptist Church of Raytown and was a very active member there, working in vacation bible school, W.M.U, choir and volunteer work. In 1958, Irma’s dad built a brush arbor in the woods. Her grandmother was saved there when a traveling preacher came through.
In 1969, Irma with her husband and two daughters moved to Vienna, Virginia (near Washington D.C.) where they lived for 3 years.
Irma had a number of interesting jobs. She worked in the office of Simmons Mattress Company. She also sold encyclopedias, Avon products and jewelry. From 1980 to to 1983, she was manager of the apparel department for a Wal-Mart store. She directed fashion shows while there. Two years she spent working for Ava Gabor Wig Boutique.
One of her jobs required a great deal of air travel. This was with American Income Life Insurance where she worked from 1977 to 1980.
In 1983, Irma and her husband, Larry Owen, moved to Gravois Mills, Missouri, where she lived until 1988.
Later after moving back to the Kansas City area, Irma went to work at KU Medical Center (1988-1996) where she worked for 14 doctors at an Ear, Nose and Throat Clinic. She loved every minute of that job.
Irma praised the Lord that the breast cancer she was diagnosed with in 1986 never returned. She felt that God had been able to use her as a witness because of that experience and she was very grateful.
Irma always enjoyed traveling. When she was married, she enjoyed cruises and RV camping across the country. As a single person, she continued to be adventurous, still traveling when possible.
Irma became a member of the Sunrise Beach Baptist Church in September 1989. She worked as a Sunday School Teacher, lead Vacation Bible School, and was head of the hostess committee.
The highlight of Irma’s life was her salvation and close relationship with the Lord.
Irma had a blessed life here on earth, but is looking forward to her new life with her daughters, family and friends and mostly Jesus in heaven.
The final resting place for Irma Louise Owen will be Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, located at 701 North 94th Street, Kansas City.
A Memorial service will be held on Tuesday, August 12, 2025 at 10:00 am in the Mausoleum Chapel at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
