Jimmy Odell Dobson, Jr., 61, of Midland, Texas, passed away on August 3, 2025. Born in Dallas, Texas, on January 9, 1964, to the late Myla Jane Cook and Jimmy Odell Dobson, Sr., Jimmy grew up in Mesquite and from a young age set his sights on serving his country. His determination led him to enlist in the United States Navy, where he proudly served for 20 years as a nuclear engineer aboard submarines.
Following his military career, Jimmy worked for more than a decade with Oxy Permian Basin as a financial analyst, bringing the same precision and drive he had in the Navy to his civilian work.
Jimmy was passionate about restoring classic cars, collecting unique bricks and petroleum memorabilia, and capturing moments through photography. He was loud, outspoken, and unfiltered—never afraid to speak his mind—but he met life’s challenges with humor, often cracking jokes even in the hardest of times. He loved nothing more than playful tickle fights with his grandchildren and sharing laughs with family.
He is survived by his wife, Tina Dobson; daughters, Emma Overstreet and her husband, Jordan, and Kira Dobson; stepdaughter, Marie Butler; stepson, Rhett Butler and his wife, Shazia; and grandchildren, Paxton Overstreet, Easton Overstreet, Lincoln Overstreet, Becca Hernandez, Asiya Butler, Sairah Butler, and Myriam Butler.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday, August 13, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Leavenworth National Cemetery, where Jimmy requested to be laid to rest with military honors.
Jimmy will be remembered for his dedication to his country, his love for family, his passions, and his ability to find laughter in every season of life.
