

JoAnn Ball, 77, of Olathe, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, May 14, 2013 at her home. The visitation will be held Saturday, May 18th from 10:00-11:30 AM with the funeral service to follow at 11:30 at Church of the Resurrection, 13720 Roe Avenue in Leawood, KS. Private interment will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
JoAnn was born July 1, 1935 in Kansas City, Kansas to Louis Abraham and Hazel Louise (Carroll) Young. She was the first Miss KCK and was a member of the Junior League of Kansas City, KS. She enjoyed participating in the Junior League Theater Program, gardening, and KU basketball. JoAnn married her high school sweetheart, Fred. Among other things, they started the Ball’s Charity Golf Classic in 1980, that to date has raised $5 million for local charities. They were lifetime supporters of Kansas University and Kansas Athletics. She was the “First Lady” of KVC Behavioral Health Care and sat on the Board of Directors. KVC is a nonprofit organization that serves thousands of children and families with medical, social services and educational needs. She was the chair of the First Capitol Campaign and helped establish the Ball Conference Center. JoAnn faithfully attended Church of the Resurrection and enjoyed her bible study at Cedar Creek. She also enjoyed spending time with her “Red Hats”.
JoAnn was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 55 years, Fred Ball, her parents, Louis and Hazel Young, her sister, Frances Young and Fred’s parents, Sidney and Mollie Ball.
Survivors include her three children, Debbie Simpson, Diane Wilkerson, David Ball and daughter-in-law, Lois Ball. She is also survived by her seven grandchildren, Molly Beal, Isabelle Simpson, Connor Simpson, Cameron Wilkerson, Cole Wilkerson, Victoria Ball and Logan Ball.
