John (Jack) Floyd Morgan, Jr. was born on September 4th, 1931, and left for heaven on May 17th, 2025. He was born in Kansas City, Missouri, to Floyd and Ora Morgan. Early pictures of Jack showed him playing baseball and he continued as he got older. As a matter of fact, Jack was drafted to play professional baseball but he had his eyes on someone special.
Shortly after Jack married Betty Smith, he joined the Air Force during the Korean War and they sent him to school to learn the Russian language. When he was proficient, they sent him to Turkey where he listened in on Russian communications. It was while he was in Turkey that his first son, Daniel, was born. When his stint in Turkey was done, the three moved to McChord Air Force Base in Tacoma, Washington. That’s when Jon joined the family.
After Jack served his time, the family of 4 moved back to Kansas City, Kansas, where Jack worked for Phillips 66 and then the State Highway Department. The family enjoyed traveling and camping, and later Jack and Betty bought a little cabin on Lake of the Ozarks where they spent many days fishing.
Jack, who was a charter member of Judson Baptist Church, taught an adult Sunday School class and also served as a deacon for many years. A group of friends from his Sunday School class adopted the name, “The Branson Bunch” and frequently traveled to Branson to take in the shows. Betty and Jack loved to travel and took many bus trips and later on many cruises. But they were always available during wrestling season and were a fixture in the bleachers watching and cheering for their grandsons.
Betty developed Alzheimer’s disease and Jack became a hero. They continued to travel some but eventually had to stop. Life became hard but he vowed he would keep her home until she died, and he did. He learned to do laundry, grocery shop and cook. And he took tender care of Betty. He was devastated when she passed.
Jack leaves behind his sons, Daniel Morgan (Patti) and Jon Morgan (Carolyn); Five grandchildren, Ben Morgan (Angie), Andy Morgan (Kristi), Tim Morgan (Sol), Seth Morgan (Claire) and Lindsay Morgan (Dylan); and eleven great grandchildren, Zoey Morgan, Logan Morgan, Evelynn Morgan, Ranger Morgan, Faith Morgan, Finley Morgan, Lana Morgan, Darla Morgan, Sasha Morgan, Hazel Morgan and Ruth Morgan. Services will be held at Judson Baptist Church, 8300 State Avenue, Kansas City, Kansas, on May 31st. Visitation will be 10:00 to 11:00 with the service starting at 11:00. In lieu of flowers, the family would like to have donations made to Bethel Neighborhood Center to help children afford to go to camp this summer.
We would like to thank the nursing staff at The Piper and Faith Hospice for their loving care of Jack during his stay there.
John will be laid to rest in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
Serving as pallbearers are Benjamin Morgan, Andrew Morgan, Timothy Morgan, Seth Morgan, Logan Morgan and Ranger Morgan.
