Joyce Ann Dotson

Joyce Ann Dotson, 71, Kansas City, Kansas passed away October 17, 2017. A funeral service will be at 11:00 AM, with a visitation beginning at 9:00 AM, Friday, October 27, 2017 at Oak Ridge Missionary Baptist Church, 9301 Parallel Pkwy, Kansas City, Kansas 66112. Interment will be immediately following at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.

Joyce Ann Palmer-Dotson affectionely known as (Mama Joyce) was born on October 13, 1946 to Matthew & Bettie Palmer in Clarksville, OK.

She was the ninth of twelve children. She was preceded in death by her sister Augusta Palmer, her parents Matthew and Bettie Palmer, her brother Thomas Palmer, her sister Opal Hogan, her brothers Vernon and Gene Palmer and her grandson Christopher Dotson.

Joyce accepted and professed Christ at an early age which she carried throughout her entire life.

She completed three years at Carter G. Woodson in Tullahassee,OK. In 1962 the family moved from Clarksville,OK to Muskogee,OK where she graduated from Manual Training High School in 1965. There she had a passion for basketball. She was an avid gardener and collector of black figurines. She loved to crochet and bowl.

Joyce worked at Ventures for 15 years and retired in May 1988. After retiring she took care of her grandchildren for 10 years. Then later she worked at KCKCC as a supervisor at the bookstore until her health started to fail, then she retired after 20 years. While working there she obtained a daughter, Diane Goldbeck and a very special friend for life, Georgia Taylor.

She ran a summer program at Forest Grove Missonary Baptist Church for 3 years, where she was a member for many years. Then later she joined Oak Ridge Baptist Church. While at Oak Ridge she co-chaired the cleaning committee with her husband for 5 years.

Joyce leaves to cherish her memory her loving husband of 32 years, Dennis Lee Dotson, 5 children, Donetta London (Kevin) of KCKS, Minister Kenneth Carlis (Mona) of Gardner KS, Rhonda Barner (Jamal) of San Antonio,TX, John Robinson (Jennifer) of Tahlequah OK, and LaTrice Dotson of KCKS. Her siblings, J.C. Palmer (Verna) of Muskogee OK, Bishop George Palmer (Charlene) of Oklahoma City, OK. Evangelist Nettie Carroll of Tulsa Oklahoma, Princess Jones (Pastor Millard L Jones) of Tulsa Oklahoma, MacMarvis Lawrence of KCK and Roman Palmer (Charlotte) KCMO.

Her Grandchildren Deron Carlis, Deamos ‘’ DJ’’ Peoples ,Dominique Peoples, Tiara Dotson, JaVante Young, Zachary Robinson, LaShon Barner, LaChelle Barner, Angel Carlis, Danan Weaver, Toyion Crenshaw, Azia Robinson, and Jalen Barner. Her great grandchildren, Landon Nicholson, Harmoni Dotson, Aaliyah Reed, Giada ‘’GiGi’’ Carlis, King Carlis and

a host of nieces,,nephews,,sister-in-laws,brother-in-laws,family and friends.
