

Lolita Gaitan, 92, of Kansas City, Kansas passed away on February 27, 2017 at Providence Medical Center. Funeral services will be at 10:30, Saturday, March 4th at Chapel Hill – Butler Funeral Home, 701 North 94th Street, Kansas City, Kansas 66112; visitation will be from 9:00-10:30am at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
Lolita was born November 29, 1924 in Kansas City, Kansas to Jose and Mabel Gaitan. She was baptized at an early age and confessed her faith in the Lord. She attended Northeast Junior High and Sumner High School before leaving to work at Boeing, making planes during WWII. Lolita also volunteered her time in the food lines making sandwiches during the Depression and wartime. She later worked for Our Lady of St. Rose in the cafeteria and also worked in housekeeping for the University of Kansas Hospital, where she was their Employee of the Month in 1981. She was very proud of the write-up in their newsletter. She took pride and enjoyed providing quality child care for family and friends. Lolita was very family oriented and put all her energy into raising her children and caring for her grandbabies. She enjoyed going shopping, relaxing at home, playing Chinese checkers, working puzzles, and talking and singing to her parakeets. Lolita enjoyed jazz dancing and even did some modeling. She traveled whenever she could, whether it was going to Las Vegas with her sister, or visiting her daughter in California, or her nieces in Florida.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jose and Mabel Gaitan; her five brothers, Fernando Gaitan, Sr., Donnyel Gaitan, Boyd Gaitan, Donnie Gaitan, and Benton Gaitan; and four of her sisters, Hortensia Crabtree, Consuela Gaitan, Nana Tilford, and Joela Sears.
Lolita is survived by her sister, Natalia Adams of Chester, NY; her son, Rivero M. Gaitan and his wife Alicia of Grandview, MO; her daughters, Kathy O. Gaitan of KCK, and Lisa M. Carson and her husband Cortez of KCK; her grandchildren, Rivero “Sparky”, Antwine, Myesha “Mykee”, Nakia, Ricco, Chávez, Brittni “British”, and Marquise “Joey”; her ten great-grandchildren as well as a host of nieces, nephews and other close friends who all called her “Mom” or “Grandma.”
