Loren Gene Christian

Loren G. Christian, 71, of Kansas City, Kansas, passed away Saturday, March 5, 2016. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00pm, Thursday, March 10th at Chapel Hill – Butler Funeral Home, 701 North 94th Street, Kansas City, Kansas. Funeral services will be 10:00am, Friday, March 11th at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Shriner’s, City Union Mission, or St. Jude’s Hospital.

Loren was born May 7, 1944 in Versailles, Missouri to Roy and Louise Christian. He grew up in Versailles and left school right before graduation to help his brother. Loren’s generous spirit and good humor was evident in everything he did. He married the love of his life, Lavelle Toedtmann on June 8, 1963. Loren worked for many years in the transportation industry, first for Santa Fe and then retired from Yellow Transit after thirty years.

He was a very active man throughout his life, often biking for many miles every day and walking his beloved dog, Gunther. Loren loved spending time outdoors, hunting, camping, fishing and watching sprint car racing. He enjoyed traveling and went to races with friends and several European trips with his family. Loren’s favorite locales were London, England, Italy, France, Scotland, Ireland, and Wales. He spent time every morning reading his mother’s bible, even when on vacation and camping.

Loren was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Louise Christian; his wife’s parents, Herb and Alma Toedtmann; his siblings, Bob and Velma; and his brothers-in-law, Floyd Todd and Jerry Birch.

He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Lavelle Christian; his daughter, LaNette Christian; his son, Larry Christian (Tonya); his sister, Patricia Todd; his brother-in-law, Merrell “Butch” Toedtmann (Sue); his grandchildren, Ashleigh, Cassie, Mitchell, Eric, Katie, Autumn, Cayden; his great-granddaughter, Livia; as well as many dear friends that were virtually part of the family.
