Lucy H. (Thompson) Melton, 70, of Kansas City, Kansas passed away November 3, 2018 at home surrounded by family. Family services will be held later at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, 701 North 94th Street, Kansas City, Kansas 66112.
Lucy was born August 8, 1948 in El Paso, Texas to Margarito and Josefina Vargas. A long-time Kansas City resident, Lucy married Henry “Hank” Thompson and they enjoyed many years of marriage before his passing in 2002. She later married Montana “Tim” Melton. Lucy worked in hospital administration for Bethany and Providence Hospitals; she retired in 2009. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist and later St. Patrick Catholic Church. Lucy was a member of the Secret Pals Club and was a Tin Lizzie and a former Queen in the Daughters of the Nile (a companion group to the Abdallah Shrine). She enjoyed traveling, especially Las Vegas and going to the Stockton Lake. Lucy also enjoyed riding Harley motorcycles.
She was preceded in death by her father, Margarito Vargas; her husbands, Hank Thompson and Tim Melton; her brother, Martin “Chito” Vargas.
Lucy is survived by her mother, Josefina Vargas-Reyes; her children, Cheri Perez (Andrew), Sonya Perez, Melissa Briones (John), and Theodore Perez (Victoria); her significant other, Arthur “Bill” Keefer; her brothers, Samuel Vargas, Oscar Vargas, Mario Vargas, Hector Vargas, Ceasar Vargas; her sisters, Alma Stevens, Lily Grado, Martha Newman, Rosie Martinez, Elva Hernandez, Elida Paredes, Bertha Bogart; her sixteen grandchildren, twenty-three great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.
