Her Mother died when she was ten, but her dad was able to keep the family together. She attended White Church Grade School, excelling in academics and basketball. In 1932 she graduated from Bishop Ward High School. After high school she passed the Kansas State Teachers’ exam but chose to marry Bud, the love of her life. Together they made a safe and secure home for their family.
Since 1956 she had been a member of Christ the King Parish and was a charter member of the Go Getters. She and Bud enjoyed bus trips to Washington, D.C., Nashville, and New Orleans with this group. She was both a self-taught and expert seamstress and crocheter. She faithfully crafted afghans and quilts for her grandchildren which continue to wrap them in her love.
She was married to Sherwin “Bud” for 58 years until his death in 1992. Maude was also preceded in death by her son, Derl, in 2009. Brothers, Ernest and Raymond and sisters, Edith Douglas and Marybelle Bettis also predeceased her. She is survived by two daughters: Patricia (Bernard) Callaghan and Deborah (Michael) Korte.
