

Rose Ida Jacks, 103, of Basehor, KS died on September 7, 2013 of natural causes. A visitation will be held Friday, Sept. 13th from 10:00-11:00 a.m. with funeral service to follow at 11:00 a.m. at Chapel Hill-Butler Funeral Home, 701 N. 94th St., KCKS. Burial will follow services at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
Rose was born in Kansas City, MO on August 7, 1910 to Henry W. and Ida (Schnieder) Kroge. The family moved to Maywood, Kansas in 1912 and Rose was a life-long member of Wyandotte County until March of 1999 when she moved to Basehor, KS. Rose married Ernest Jacks on June 23, 1934.
Rose was a teacher at Mission and Horanif #36 schools, and was a substitute teacher for 18 years in the KCK District 500, retiring in 1972. She was an active member of White Church Christian Church, a member of the Faith Hope & Love Sunday School class and the Dorcas Society, and a member of the Piper Senior Citizens Club. She enjoyed making lap robes for the VA Hospital and nursing home.
Rose was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ernest in 1972; son, Melvin in 2012 and brothers, Otto Kroge and Herman Kroge. She is survived by her daughter, Norma Jean (Howard) Clark of Albuquerque, NM; daughter-in-law, Barbara Jacks of KCK; niece, Marjorie Kline of Overland Park, KS; nephew, Alvin (Cynthia) Kroge of Lawrence, KS; four grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, and “Grandmothers” friend Connie Reynolds of Tonganoxie, KS.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to White Church Christian Church, 2200 N. 85th St., KCK 66109, St. Patrick’s Church, 1086 N. 94th St., KCK 66112, or Cancer Action, 10520 Barkley – Suite 100, Overland Park, KS 66212.
The family wishes to express their thanks to Providence Place and to Catholic Community Hospice for their support and care of Rose.
