

Russell D. Morton, 77, of KCK, passed away December 6, 2017. A visitation will be held from 10:00-11:00 a.m., with a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 9th at Chapel Hill – Butler, 701 North 94th Street, Kansas City, Kansas 66112. Interment with honors will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
Russell was born July 8, 1940 in Kansas City, Kansas to George and Pauline J. Morton. He graduated from Washington High School and served in the USMC for 4 years as a jet mechanic. He returned to Kansas City, where he married the love of his life, Diana Warfel on June 11, 1972. Russell worked for KCP&L as an electrician, meter tester, and retired as a dispatcher in 1995. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW). He also had his private and commercial pilot’s license. Russell achieved his dream of owning a cattle farm in the Ozarks. Russell was a life member of Stony Point Christian Church; with roles including Sunday school teacher, maintaining the church cemetery, and being a deacon. He served as a Boy Scout leader and spent his free time following the stock market, playing guitar, singing, and working on his farm.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his youngest brother, Chris Eugene Morton.
Russell is survived by his wife of 45 years, Diana Morton of the home; his son, Jason Morton and his wife Allison of Excelsior Springs, Missouri; his daughter, Abigail Smith and her husband, John of Shawnee, Kansas; his brother, Jerry Morton and his wife Carol of Kansas City, Kansas; and his five granddaughters, Gracelyn, Calista, and Kendall Smith, and Charlotte and Lois Morton; as well as other relatives and friends.
