

Shirley J. Holland, 93, Mission, Kansas passed away March 2, 2022 at Bickford Senior Living. Visitation will be from 10-11 am, with a funeral service at 11 am on Monday, March 7, 2022 at Chapel Hill-Butler Funeral Home, 701 N. 94th St., Kansas City, Kansas 66112. A graveside service will be immediately following at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Abdallah Shrine Transportation Fund, 5300 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park, Kansas 66202.
Shirley was born on October 21, 1928 to Hubert Daniel and Helene Ethel (Rubel) Pierce in Marysville, Kansas. The family moved to the Argentine area in Kansas City in July, 1936. Shirley attended Emerson Grade School, Argentine Junior High and Senior High School, graduating in May, 1946 accomplishing National Honor Roll her senior year.
Right out of high school in 1946, Shirley started working for TWA in the accounting and then engineering departments. She worked there until 1950, when she was ready to start her family.
On February 18, 1950 she was married to James Elmer Holland, Jr. at Metropolitan Avenue Church in Argentine, Kansas. She enjoyed her time at home for many years with their three daughters, Pamela, Constance, and Deborah.
Shirley went back to work in 1965 at the J.C. Penney credit office where she worked until 1971. She then worked for Teamsters Union #41 from 1980 to 1982 and Argentine Santa Fe Credit Union from 1982 to 1986. She then worked at her husband’s car business.
Shirley became a member of Southridge Presbyterian Church in 1960 where she served as an Elder, Deacon and a member of the Priscilla Circle. She was also a member of Tirzah Eastern Star Chapter #85 for 50 years, along with belonging to El Monte #120 Daughter of Nile, Merry Mixers FCE for over 45 years, Nobles of Abdallah, and Jokers Wildcards and Ladies Without Nobles. She also enjoyed volunteering at Overland Park Regional Medical Center.
In her spare time Shirley enjoyed bowling, golf, reading, playing canasta and bunco.
After over 42 years of marriage to James, he passed away on September 6, 1992. Shirley is also preceded in death by her parents and brother, Bill Pierce.
Survivors include her three daughters, Pamela Hites Dorschner, Constance L. (Alan) Williams and Debroah K. (Bill) Burman; six grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
