First Sergeant Steven A. Henre, 73, Kansas City, KS, passed away April 21, 2019 at Overland Park Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be Friday, April 26, 2019 at noon at Chapel Hill – Butler Funeral Home, 701 N. 94th St., Kansas City, KS, with visitation from 10:00-noon preceding the service. Interment with full Military Honors will follow in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. The family suggests contributions to the Disabled American Veterans or Boy Scouts of America, in lieu of flowers.
Steve was born November 26, 1945 in Kansas City, KS. He graduated from Wyandotte High School in 1963 and attended KC Jr. College before enlisting into the US Army in 1966. During his twenty year military career, he served three tours in Germany, nineteen months in Vietnam, and several stateside units before retiring at Fort Carson, CO. Military awards include: three Bronze Star Medals, five Meritorious Service Medals, five Army Commendation Medals, six Good Conduct Medals, Vietnamese Honor Medal Second Class, and several service ribbons. Steve was a Life Member of the Disabled American Veterans and served as 1st Junior Vice Commander, Department of KS and was Past Commander of Wyandotte County Chapter #1. He was a Life Member of the National Order of Trench Rats Dugout #373 and served as Golden Rodent, Sector of KS for two years. Steve was a Life Member of VFW Post 9271. He was also a member of American Legion Post #41. Steve also served as a Boy Scout Leader for twenty-seven years. He loved Street Rods, camping, fishing, and spending time with family and friends.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Ethel Henre; and his three brothers, Richard Henre, Gerald Henre, and Marvin Henre.
He is survived by his four children, Mark Henre (Tanya) of Blue Springs, MO, Michael Henre (Jennifer) of Sarasota, FL, Michelle Henre of Farmington, NM, and Matthew Arbogast of Dallas, TX; as well as nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and other relatives and friends.
