Velma Louise Jones

Velma Louise Jones of Lansing, Kansas passed away on Thursday, May 7, 2020. She was 83 years old. A “drive-up” style visitation will take place on Wednesday, May 13, 2020 from 4:00 – 6:00 pm at Chapel Hill-Butler Funeral Home, 701 North 94th Street, Kansas City, Kansas 66112. Come, offer your condolences to Velma’s family, and pay final respects to Velma while following social distancing guidelines from the safety of you vehicle. Velma was born on June 24, 1936 in Marchfield, Missouri to Andrew and Melissa (Hayes) Cook. As a young adult, Velma met and fell in love with Harold L. Jones, and soon the couple was married. Together they raised six children. Velma was a stay at home mother and homemaker for her family.

Velma was a member at Stony Point Baptist Church in Kansas City, Kansas. She enjoyed spending her time with her family, especially her many grandchildren. She was loved by so many and never met a stranger. Velma will be dearly missed.

Velma was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Lavaughn Jones; her sisters, Mary Wyatt and Rufus Cook; her parents, Andrew and Melissa Cook; and her daughter in law, Pamela Jones.

Left to cherish her memory is her son, Jack H. Jones and wife, Judy of Leavenworth, Kansas; daughter, Peg Reaka and husband Doug of Kansas City, Kansas; son, Rick Jones of Kansas City, Kansas; son, Roger Jones and wife, Lissa Jones of Tonganoxie, Kansas; grandchildren, Julie (Chris) Ruttans, Melissa (Brad) Wheeler, Jennifer (Jerry) Jones, Jody (Toni) Adams, Jeff Reaka, Richie Jones, Tammy Jones, Christine Jones, Jacob Jones, Jacqueline (Shawn) Green, Zachary (Hannah) Jones, Isaac Jones, Andrew Jones; 21 great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild; along with a host of other family members and friends.
