Born on July 21st 1951 in Kansas City, KS, Mike was one of the beloved children of Edward and Marie Atkins. He grew up in Kansas City, KS, where he developed a lifelong passion for family, fishing and Royals Baseball.
Mike worked as a dairy supervisor at Zarda/Roberts dairy for over 25 years. After retiring he worked as a Security Officer at University of Kansas Medical Center. He was known for his crazy humor and steadfast work ethic. Outside of work, he enjoyed fishing at Wyandotte County Lake white listening to the Royals baseball and eating Wyandotte Barbecue. He spent several years cooking meals and greeting patrons at Victory Assembly in Bonner Springs, KS. During his stay at Parkway Rehabilitation Center in Edwardsville KS he made lots of friends. He led prayer many times, he played games (bingo and cards) with the other residents, he helped with puzzles as well as being his whimsical self. If you met Mike you had a wonderful friend for life.
Mike is preceded in death by his parents, his brother and two sisters. Mike is survived by his wife Jackie, his children Tina Price (Dan), Jenny O'Neil (Scott), Michelle Atkins and step-daughter Cynthia Long. 6 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild, many nieces, nephews and tons of cousins. Mike is also survived by his life long best friend Gerry Soptick.
A funeral will be held on Friday, April 24th, visitation will begin at 10:00 am with a service to follow at 11:00 am Chapel Hill Funeral Home 701 N 94th St, Kansas City, KS 66112. Burial in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.
