Anastasia (Stasia) Lange Kornis passed peacefully from this life on September 1, 2025 at the age of 97, surrounded by her devoted family. She had been lovingly cared for at home by her children during the final years of her life.
Anastasia was born in Kansas City in 1927, to Anton and Cathryn Lange. She attended St. Therese Little Flower Grade School and Hogan Catholic High School. After graduation, she enrolled in Huff Business School and was employed at Englander Manufacturing Company and BS&B Manufacturing as a secretary/receptionist.
Stasia met George Arthur Kornis at a Huff Business School dance, and that evening George told a friend, “That’s my future wife. She just doesn’t know it yet.” His prediction came true, and Stasia married George on August 30, 1952 at St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church. Together they had four children and shared 65 happy years together until George’s passing in 2017.
Stasia and George invested in a start-up company, Raytown Electric Supply, in 1971 and over the years their company expanded to multiple locations in Missouri. Kornis Electric Supply recently celebrated 54 years in business and is owned and operated by their sons.
George and Stasia also bought a property at Lake Lotawana early in their marriage, and over time George built a summer home there for their family. For 50 years they hosted gatherings for their extended family and friends and “The Lake” became a place for celebrating good times and making great memories.
While parishioners at Christ the King Parish, Stasia was an active member of the Altar Society and volunteered at the school. She served as Den Mother and Girl Scout Leader for all four of her children.
Eventually moving to south Kansas City, Stasia and George became founding members of St. Thomas More Catholic Church. Even in later years when she could no longer attend services, Stasia always supported the parish with contributions and prayer.
Stasia was also a founding member of the St. Jude Mission Club and made lifelong friends and raised money for missions in India.
Stasia always created a beautiful home for her family and was a consummate cook and baker. She always had a cup of tea and a sweet treat at the ready for anyone who dropped by. Stasia also proved to be a fabulous seamstress, creating beautiful prom dresses and sewing dance costumes for her daughters for many years.
Stasia, “Nana” was the soul of her family and was always ready to help anyone in need. Her ever-present smile captivated all who met her, and her sweet and joyful presence was a light and a comfort to everyone who knew her. She will be deeply missed.
Stasia is survived by her children, Greg Kornis (Ellen), Susan Kornis Gasper (Curt), Mike Kornis (Tricia), and Stacy Kornis Holland (Steve). Grandchildren, Jeff (Karyn), Katie (Eric), Todd (Laura), Matt (Abby), George, Mitchell, Max, Audrey, Will, Brett, and Lydia and great-grandchildren, Hailey, Aidan, Ethan, Jack, Goldie, Collin, Emerson, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, George, her sisters, Martha and Jeanne, and grandchildren, Abbey and Adam.
Rosary will be Friday, September 5th, at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 11822 Holmes Road, Kansas City, Missouri at 9:30 a.m. followed by visitation from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11:00 a.m.
