

Anita Jean (Pfuetze) Johnson, a longtime resident of Prairie Village, Kansas passed away February 22, 2026. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. at Asbury Methodist Church in Prairie Village on March 28, 2026. A Celebration of Life reception will follow.
Anita was born on September 13, 1930, in Hutchinson, Kansas the only child of Frederick W. “Fritz” Pfuetze and Clara Klocke Pfuetze. The family moved to Manhattan, Topeka, Shawnee Mission and Randolph, Kansas. She met her husband, Carl J. Johnson in Randolph, married in 1952 and began a long and fruitful marriage, living in Prairie Village for over 65 years. Carl preceded Anita in death, December 8, 1991. She was also preceded in death by her parents and her son-in-law, Robert Jacquinot.
Anita graduated from Shawnee Mission (North) High School in 1948 and enjoyed a full and active life. She worked for over 20 years as an administrative assistant for the Trust Department at Southgate Bank in Prairie Village. She was also regularly active in her children’s lives, including PTA, Cub Scouts, music, and dance lessons. She was an avid traveler staying engaged through her many interests, which included garden club, bridge, square dancing, bowling and other neighborhood activities. She was an avid K-State Fan and enjoyed watching their games along with the Kansas City Royals and Kansas City Chiefs. She was immensely proud that all three of her children graduated from Kansas State as well as her grandchildren.
She was a devoted long-time member of Asbury Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir for many years. She made many cherished friends at church and elsewhere was known for the many friendships she formed throughout her life. Her extended family was also important as she relished family reunions or visits with her several nieces and nephews.
Anita is survived by her three children: Steven Carl Johnson (Ann) of Lawrence, KS; Sheril Lynn Klaassen (Keith) of Wichita, KS; and Karen Beth Jacquinot of Louisburg, KS. She was blessed with six grandchildren: Lesley Colwell (RJ) of Denver, CO; Christopher Johnson (Marlo) of Lawrence, KS; Troy Klaassen of Salida, CO; Nikki Klaassen of Overland Park, KS; Cayce Hester (Craig) of Bucyrus, KS; and Carey Jacquinot of Portland, OR. She was also very proud of her Great grandchildren: Lola and Mia Johnson, Lawrence; Owen Colwell of Denver; and Hudson Hester of Bucyrus.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Asbury Methodist Church of Prairie Village or The American Heart Association in care of McGilley State Line Funeral Home, Kansas City, MO.
