

Gusti had arthritis as a child and went to Davos-Platz, where his God father found him a job at the Santorium Schatzalp. There he was treated and was able to complete a cooking apprenticeship May 1947 to November 1950. Gusti continued his education in the hotel service and food industry in Zurich, Geneva, Montreux, and Interlaken Switzerland Dec 1950 to April 1957.
He arrived in Manhatten on the Libertē, June 3 1958. He worked as a private butler for Beverly-Farms, Massachusetts before moving to Kansas City in Oct 1958. He worked as a sous-chef for the Kansas City Club, as a chef for Bretton’s Restaurant, a chef and partner for Chateaubriand, and then he opened La Bonne Auberge Nov 69 – Dec 1984. He proudly became a US Citizen March 4th, 1976.
Once he “finally” retired, Gusti had a very busy schedule traveling/lunching/”holidaying” with his and LaVerne’s 15 children, 35 grand children and 50+ great grandchildren. Additionally, Gusti was very involved with the KC Swiss Society.
Gusti was preceded in death by his parents Othmar Riedi and Maria Barbara Riedi, and his sister, Martina Riedi.
He leaves behind his beloved wife LaVerne J Riedi, siblings Antonia Camenisch-Riedi, Plazi Joseph Riedi, and Laura Riedi and his children Ursula Elizabeth Kohlstaedt (Christopher), Lorenz Othmar Riedi (Regina) and Karl Joesph Riedi (Sandra). Grandson James W Murray ( Megan ), Christopher J Kohlstaedt ( Casie), Jean-Noel Spring. His beloved great grand-children Leona and Daphne Murray, Ari and August Kohlstaedt.
His beloved step-children: Debbie Nehring, Vicky Roundy, Cindy Turner, Susan Greenwald, , Victor Stueve III, John Stueve, William Stueve, Robert Stueve, Corinne Drummond, Rosina Yoemans, Pamela Stueve, James E Stueve. and their families.

Celebration of Life will be held March 5, 2022 at Abundant Life Church, 414 SW Persels Road, Lee's Summit, MO 64081. Visitation to begin at 10:30, Service will be held from 11am - 12pm, Food to follow and all are welcome.
