Barbara was born November 16, 1927, in LaMonte, Missouri, the daughter of Claude and Ethyle Weathers Crole. Barbara was a graduate of LaMonte High School in 1945. She lived in the Kansas City area most of her life. She was preceded in death by her husband, Michael A. Joy in 1973 and by her husband Philip H. Bevan in 1996.
She was a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker, who also enjoyed being a hostess, volunteering, traveling, her vocal training, reading novels, and walking for exercise. Barbara was a member of the Village United Presbyterian Church, and a former member of the Tomahawk Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Women’s Committee for the Conservatory of Music and Dance, UMKC, and the Lyric Opera Guild. She was a bank teller at several Johnson County banks.
Surviving her is her son, Jeffrey C. Joy and his wife, Karen of Portland, Oregon; a daughter, Michele L. Walker and her husband, Reed Walker of Leawood; her grandchildren Clint Ebert and his wife Catie, Luke Ebert and his wife Melissa, Anna Humar and her husband, Tyler, Jenny Isailovski and her husband, Boro; and Lindsay Joy; along with beloved nieces, nephews and 9 beloved great grandchildren. Her pride and joy were her son’s success as an attorney and her daughter’s achievements as a registered nurse.
A celebration of life will be held Saturday, September 9, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at her graveside at Mount Moriah Cemetery, 10507 Holmes Road in Kansas City, Missouri. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to K9’s for Warriors.
