

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Barbara L. Cushman, of Raytown, Missouri. Barbara was born in Kansas City, Missouri, May 6th, 1943. She died in her sleep at her home at Trustwell Living in Raytown, MO, on June 13th, 2024. She was 81 years old.
She will join her parents Anna Marie and Lloyd Tyson in death along with her brother Jerry and sister Charlotte. She is survived by her sister Pat Tyson of Raytown, MO.
Barbara had two Children, Christopher Ames Cushman of Raytown, MO, and Matthew Patrick Cushman (with his wife Crissi) of Oak Grove, MO. She had eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Barbara graduated from Raytown High School in 1961 and from the University of Missouri-Kansas City in 1964 with a Certificate in Dental Hygiene
Barbara spent most of her professional life making sure vulnerable people had dental care. She supervised the UMKC Dental Clinic and she further championed that cause by managing the Elks mobile dental clinic out of University Health-Lakewood that brought important care to the disabled throughout Missouri.
Barbara loved reading mysteries and thrillers, loved knitting, and watching the Royals and Chiefs. She was an unabashed feminist and an example of resilience in the face of adversity.
A visitation will be held June 21st at Newcomer’s Floral Hills 7000 Blue Ridge Blvd at 1:00 pm, with a service celebrating her life at 2:00 pm.
