Barbara was born on August 18, 1927 in Parsons, KS to Chester and Frances Guild. In 1946 she married her high school sweetheart Max Workman. Their 37 years of marriage was blessed with four children: Cynthia {Greg} Marquardt, Kent {Janice} Workman, Greg {Dori} Workman and Carolyn Henry. She was employed by Montgomery Wards for many years and took her retirement there. After the death of her husband Max in 1983, she remarried in 1984 to Joe Kreutzer and they were married 29 years. Joe preceded Barbara in death in 2013.
She learned to play golf after her retirement and was an avid golfer until she turned 90. One of her favorite golfing stories was about the time she got a hole in one. She and Joe went to Florida for several winters and golfed and spent time with good friends. When she was 87 her grandson Ryan took her to Paris, fulfilling a longtime dream of hers. She loved to play bridge and was an active and longtime member of Shawnee Presbyterian Church. She did volunteer work for Meals on Wheels for many years and loved to help others and had a kind and giving heart.
Her greatest love was for her family and she never missed an opportunity to “gather her chicks together” for celebrations. She had a large circle of friends and loved to entertain. Once you met Barbara you weren’t just an acquaintance, she called you “my friend”. She was loved by many and will be missed deeply. She knew and loved Christ as her Savior and what comfort and hope that gives those of us who mourn her. John 11:25.
The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Prairie Elder Care and Ascend Hospice for the care they have given Mom these past few months. Barbara is survived by her four children and their spouses, nine grandchildren (including Samuel in heaven) and their spouses, plus 15 great grandchildren (including Maddox in heaven) and nieces and nephews.
The family suggests any memorials be given to the Salvation Army.
