Barbara Lee Meyer

She was born on October 1st, 1935 in Smithfield, North Carolina where she grew up. After receiving a $300 scholarship and support from her family, Barbara, known as Babs, graduated as a registered nurse from Rex Hospital School of Nursing in 1956. After a 3 month courtship, she was married to Rex W. Meyer from Iowa on December 30th, 1956 until his death on May 11th, 1997 in Leawood, KS. Barb worked as a nurse when living with Rex at homes in Iowa, Indiana and in Leawood, KS. She finished her career at Honeywell in Kansas City. She was lovingly dedicated to her family and raised three children.

Barbara was active in St. Johns Methodist Church that included going on a South Africa missionary trip. She was part of their Stephen Ministries. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend to many. Her pastimes included participating in book and Bunco clubs, eating out with friends, reading and completing puzzles. She also loved working in her yard when she was able. She was an avid dog lover.

She was preceded in death by her parents Joseph Ira Lee and Rosalie Rogers Lee, and siblings Anne Hines Lassiter, Mary Jean Lee Johnson, Janice Norris, Margaret Rose Lee and Joseph Ira Lee Jr.

She is survived by brother James Wesley Lee, Smithfield, NC, sons Rex W. Meyer, Jr (Sandra) Cedar Rapids, IA, Stephen Meyer, Willis, Tx and daughter Debra Denis (Dean) Overland Park, KS, along with grandchildren Kristen Meyer, Sam Denis and Jack Denis.

The family would like to thank the Trustwell caregivers and Monarch Hospice for the care and compassion they showed in her last days.

She will be laid to rest at Mount Moriah Cemetery, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, MO.

Friends and family are invited to attend her Memorial and Celebration of Life at The Overland Park Arboretum at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 6th. Luncheon will follow afterwards. The Arboretum is located at 8909 West 179th Street, Overland Park, Kansas 66013.
