

Barbara was born March 21, 1933 in Pettis County, Missouri to George Purl and Eva (Moffatt) Purl, where she grew up and attended school.
Barbara worked at an early age at a laundry mat, where she met her soon to be husband Donald Patrick Schreck. Barbara and Donald married on November 4th, 1950, at Saint Patrick’s Church in Sedalia, Missouri. Shortly after their marriage, they moved to Kansas City, Missouri, where they went on to have five boys. In addition to raising her children, Barbara worked and retired from Sears, Roebuck, and Co.
Barbara is preceded in death by her husband Donald, who passed away in June 1999 and her oldest son, Donald Eugene Schreck who passed away January 2023. She is also preceded in death by her mother Eva, father George, brothers Alvalee Purl, Loyd Purl, George Junior Purl, sisters Ellen Purl, Ada (Stevens) Holt, Lavonnie Stevens, and grandson Austin Schreck.
Barbara is survived by her Son Victor Anthony Schreck (Dee Jae), Christopher Patrick Schreck (Lorie), Michael Lynn Schreck (Tammy), and Norman Jerome Schreck. She is also survived by her sister, Darlene Purl, brothers Larry Purl, George Frank Purl, and JD Stevens, sister in-laws, Ruth Smith and Charlotte Blaschke. Additionally, Barbara is survived by 11 grandchildren, Dana Williamson and Mindy Hanenkratt (Troy) [mother Patricia Elwell], Angela Schreck [mother Denise Schreck], Darrin Schreck, and Jimmy Schreck (Trisha) [mother Linda Schreck], Ryan Schreck (Alison), Nicholas Schreck, Brian Schreck (Pam), Whitney Mammoliti (Kirk), Clinton Schreck, and Titus Schreck. She has 25 great-grandchildren Megan Speer (Edward), Samantha Williamson, Alyssa Hanenkratt, Rachael Hanenkratt, Anthony Schreck, Kayla Schreck, Haylee Schreck, Lilly Schreck, Angel Rojas, Anthony Schreck, Alex Schreck, Addison Schreck, Haylee Schreck, Chloe Schreck, Chanden Hills, Jack Schreck, Elliott Schreck, Asher Schreck, Maria Schreck, Samuel Schreck, Beckum Mammoliti, Cylas Mammoliti, Anabelle Mammoliti, Willow Mammoliti, and Aubrie Schreck. Finally, she’s survived by one great, great granddaughter, Olivia Speer.
Barbara was a woman of faith and loved God her savior. Before her ailing health she attended Saint Marks and while in the extended care at University Health, she attended services provided by Our Lady of The Presentation Catholic Church. Barbara had a love for dogs and had a love for her current dog, Baby Princess like no other. She cherished and deeply loved all four generations of her family as well as her extended family. She enjoyed music (country and gospel), movies, time with family, travel, amusement parks, spring-time flowers, and humming birds. Her legacy will forever be remembered by the way she loved and may she now rejoice with greetings from her Father of well-done good and faithful servant.
A visitation for Barbara will be held Tuesday, May 16, 2023 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at Newcomer's Floral Hills Funeral Home, 7000 BLUE RIDGE BLVD, KANSAS CITY, MO 64133. A funeral service will occur Tuesday, May 16, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, 7000 BLUE RIDGE BLVD, KANSAS CITY, MO 64133. A graveside service will occur Tuesday, May 16, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 11:30 AM at Floral Hills Cemetery, 7000 BLUE RIDGE BLVD, KANSAS CITY, MO 64133.
