Barbara Carol Spring

Barbara was born in Norristown, PA on March 27, 1957 and moved to the Kansas City area when she was a child. She lived here the rest of her life and died here. Barbara was preceded in death by her father, Edgar “Ed” Spring and her mother, Dorothea “Dottie” Spring. She is survived by her loving sister, Gwen Spring, of Kansas City.

After college, Barbara worked in the travel field but later she earned her Paralegal license from Johnson County Community College and worked for law firms in the Kansas City area. After retiring in 2014 from Morrow, Willnauer and Klosterman LLC, she volunteered her time at Wayside Waifs and The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art.

What can I tell you about Barbara? She was a great photographer and had a natural eye for color and design. She loved Music, Art, Film and all animals. To experience the best live music and art, she traveled the world for it. Some of those adventures include: Jeff Beck in Brussels; the Ishtar Gate in Berlin; Van Morrison in London; The Mona Lisa in Paris; the Forbidden City in Beijing; Al Green in Memphis; Guernica in Madrid…Tell me when to stop! If you’d mentioned that one of her favorites, like Andrea Bocelli (and there were many) was touring in New York next weekend, she’d say, “Lets Go!” Barbara was a reliable film critic. Her first choice was to watch a film in the theater; she’d say that was always the best experience. But if you visited her home you could expect a seat on her mid-century couch and a second showing of the most worthy films or Jeopardy! She never saw an animal, she did not admire. Elephants, rabbits, whales, turtles, alligators, snakes, birds and monkeys, but the big cats were her favorite!

Barb believed in God and that all people are created equal. She was a devoted friend. She never judged and was bored with gossip. Barbara loved to laugh and have fun. Just let me tell you about the last Sunday before her passing… She started that evening with the annual Bastille Day dinner at Le Fou Frog. She laughed and took photos while watching the Country Western themed entertainment. After dinner, she headed to Knuckleheads and danced to Dale Watson, managing to get a photo with him afterwards. Then on the way home, she decided to stop at the Caddy Shack to catch up with friends and share the evening’s photos. Yes, Life is good when you Laugh and Dance and Love.

All friends and family are welcome to join Barbara’s visitation from 5:00 – 7:00pm, Friday, August 9, 2024 at McGilley State Line Chapel, along with light appetizers to enjoy.
