

Bill N. Cox, 91, passed away January 2 in Lee’s Summit. Bill was a born in Guymon, Oklahoma on June 28, 1929 to Nathaniel and Vereda Cox. He lived most of his life in the Kansas City, Independence and Lee’s Summit areas. He married Marlene Markham in 1951 and together they had four children. Marlene passed away in 1997.
Bill graduated from night school at Kansas City Junior College and Rockhurst College with a BSBA in Business Administration, Accounting Major. He was a Certified Public Accountant and life member of the Missouri Society of CPA’s. He was employed as Senior Vice President and Treasurer of North American Savings and was active in the Financial Managers Society of Savings Institutions on a local and national level.
He was a member of the Blue Ridge Boulevard Methodist Church for more than 65 years and served as Treasurer and Board member. Bill was also an active member of the Southside and Lee’s Summit Optimist Clubs. Always a giving person, Bill built a number of houses for Habitat for Humanity as a volunteer after retirement. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War.
Preceding Bill in death were his brother Vernon Cox and sisters Vergie Parham and Betty Lee. He is survived by his wife of 14 years, Juanita; four children Karen Johnson of Independence; Mark (Karen) Cox of Overland Park; Steve (PJ Smith) of Portland; and Brian (Lisa) Cox of Independence. His legacy lives on with five grandchildren Sarah Ross, Katie Barrios, Chael Loftis, Andrew Cox, Lindsay Cox and one great-grandson Callen Ross.
