On October 14, 2021, the family of "Bill" William R. Gauss, returned him to the eternal Father’s arms. He lived a good and fruitful life for 98 years. Bill was born February 28, 1923 in Centerview, Missouri to Alva and Grace Gauss. Bill was predeceased by his older brother Harry Gauss of Grangeville, Idaho and his older sister Mary Sharbel Brashear of Kansas City, both of whom he cherished during his life. He grew up and completed high school at Central High, Kansas City, MO, graduating in 1941. He served his nation during World War II and was discharged honorably from service. Bill was always grateful for the service men and women of the Armed Forces. After his discharge, He worked for many years as a warehouseman in the West Bottoms. Bill was an awesome story teller. He would grab the attention of all, young and old. He had much experience and wisdom to share with all who would listen. The stories about meeting and sometimes beating his quota of unloading box cars, filled with over 1000 bags of 100 lbs. of sugar a day was a huge accomplishment for him. He was a conscientious hard worker and loved his position. He would often talk about surviving the flood of 1951 and admits that it was a very scary endeavor, but made it thru. He continued to work for over 50 more years until retirement.
Bill met and married Glendora. They were together for over 40 years until her death separated them. They had a great life together. Travelling was one of their favorite pass time pleasures. To take care of each other was high on their lists. They shared much love together and proved that they were in it for whatever life would bring.
Cross Creek Assisted Living became Bill’s home after his health started to decline. He received great care by a very warm staff.
Bill is survived by his nephew, Father Joseph Sharbel of Lee’s Summit, MO; niece and husband, Mary Sharbel and Ivan Marquez of Kansas City, MO; great-nephew, Dayne Sharbel-Phillips of Kansas City, MO, and a host of family and friends.
On behalf of Bill, the family would like to request donations be made to Ivanhoe United Church of Christ
in lieu of flowers.
