Cathy Brown Lowenstein, 58 years of age, Leawood, Kansas, passed away on Dec. 12, 2013, surrounded by her family, after a valiant five-year fight against breast cancer. Services will be at Congregation Beth Torah, 6100 W. 127th St., Overland Park, KS, 66209 at 2 pm, Sun., Dec. 15, with burial following at Rose Hill Cemetery. The family requests contributions to the Jewish Community Center, 5801 W. 115th Street, Overland Park, KS 66211 attn: Cathy Lowenstein Memorial Fund.
Cathy was born June 19, 1955 to Spencer and Ila Lee (Tootie) Brown. Cathy was a loving daughter, wife, mother and friend to all she met. Relationships were always of importance to her, especially with her family and intimate circle of friends. Cathy was known for her indomitable spirit, her compassion for others, and the value of her friendships. She was committed to the community and gave of herself to several Jewish organizations over the years. She was particularly committed to the Jewish Community Center where she was a volunteer and a preschool teacher for a brief period of time.
She was preceded in death by her father Spencer Brown and her brother Steven Brown. She is survived by her loving husband of more than 30 years, Lon, of the home; her son and daughter- in-law, Lane and Jenna Lowenstein, Indianapolis, IN; daughters Paige and Sari Lowenstein, Leawood, KS; her mother Tootie Brown, Overland Park, KS; and her sister Paula Brown (Stan Spector), Rochester, NY. Cathy also leaves her in-laws Bill and Babs Lowenstein and Sharon Shoham and her brothers- and sisters-in-law, Glenn and Nicole Lowenstein of Houston, John and Amy Lowenstein of Chicago and Reed Lowenstein and Melanie Hanan of Brooklyn, NY. She is survived by many nieces and nephews and will be sadly missed by all who knew her.
