Chester Dixon Vance, 82, of Leawood, Kansas, passed away peacefully in his sleep June 14, 2012. He was born July 15, 1929 the son of Chester and Edith (Ryan) Vance. He was a graduate of Southwest High School and the University of Kansas, where he was a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity. Later, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps and served during the Korean Conflict. He was adventurous and followed his dreams. In the 1980’s, Dixon trekked from Tibet over Mt. Everest into China. Mr. Vance is survived by his three children Cynthia (Clark) Knighton of Leawood, Erika Vance of Kansas City, Missouri and Allen Vance of Kansas City, Missouri, his nephew Stephen Bunt of Dallas, Texas, five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and his beloved companion, Ginger. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 26, at Mt. Moriah & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road., Kansas City, Missouri. Burial will follow in Mt. Moriah Cemetery.
