Chiyoko (Rosie) S. Smith, 89, of Independence MO passed away on Sept. 26, 2018. She was preceeded in death by her husband Charles H. Smith. She is survived by her children, Judy Powers (Wes), Stan Smith (Debbie), Jimmie Smith (Mandy) and her grandchildren Rickey Miller (Tiffany), Mitchell Kessler (Jordan), Dakota Smith (Laurent), Shelby Smith, Jeniyah Smith, Kylauna Smith, KJ Smith, Jeremy Powers-deceased (Christina) and her great grandchildren Camryn and Mavrick Miller, Myah and Paisley Kessler, Kamiya Smith, Preston, Jacobi, Teagan and Stevi Powers. Rosie retired from the Fort Osage School District with 20 years of service. She was a devoted member of the Independence Japanese Sister City program and was honored with the “Rosie Smith Day” on January 28, 2012. She enjoyed line dancing with Fairmount Dancing Queens. She was loved by all and will be dearly missed.
Visitation and funeral services will be held Monday Oct. 1 beginning at 1pm with burial immediately following at Floral Hills Funeral Home and Cemetery.
