

C. Joy Fleming Owens of Overland Park passed away 12/15/20 at age 93. Joy was born in Kansas City and graduated from Southeast High School. Joy married Glenn in 1946 when he returned from the Navy after WWII.
They were side by side as he progressed in the automobile business and moved from mechanic to parts manager to general manager. Joy worked in accounting and bookkeeping at Charlie Fisher Buick. Eventually, they purchased a Lincoln-Mercury dealership in Topeka and Joy helped manage it and did the bookkeeping.
Later they also acquired a John Deere small implement dealership. They both returned to Overland Park in 1989. Joy then worked in her son David’s medical practice for 17 years, retiring just before her 80th birthday. She was loved by all and will be missed. She was a strong woman.
She survived the loss of her mother who had lived with her for 25 years after the premature death of her father. Later she suffered the loss of her two youngest sons, Greg in 1988 and Randy in 1991. Joy and Glenn were married 68 years. They supported each other through these hard times. They took in their grandson Ted after his father died. She cared for Glenn in the home until he died of Alzheimer’s in 2014. Sadly, Joy was admitted to memory care in the last few months of her life where she contracted Covid-19. She is with Jesus, her husband, and her sons in a better place.
She is survived by her son David Owens, MD (Rosemary), grandchildren Ted Owens (Lori), Olathe, Carlye Owens, Orlando, Brent Owens (Brianna), Los Angeles, and Marlisa Rader (Ryan), Mesa, AZ. She has three great-grandchildren Isabella Owens and Maclin and Oakley Rader.
Graveside services will be 10:00AM on 12/22/20 at Floral Hills Cemetery 7000 Blue Ridge Blvd, Kansas City, MO 64133.
