We bid fare thee well to our beloved Daniel “Dan” Schwenn, a kind-hearted, witty, and delightfully ornery soul. Dan passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, in Loveland, Colorado. He was 71 years old.
Born on January 29, 1954, Dan’s curiosity and intellect were evident from an early age. He began his career in computer science and eventually found his calling as a test engineer, specializing in battery systems for satellites. His work was complex, innovative, and deeply meaningful—much like the man himself.
Dan had a remarkable talent for building things with his hands and his mind. Whether he was designing beautiful pieces of furniture that could stand the test of time or breathing new life into vintage stereo equipment—reel-to-reel players, record players, and more—his craftsmanship was unmatched. He had an engineer’s precision and an artist’s heart.
Dan was a man of strong convictions. His sharp sense of justice sometimes made him impatient with the world, but it also made him a fierce advocate for fairness. At his core, he believed deeply in the dignity and worth of every human being, and he lived his life with that principle guiding him.
He was a loving son and brother. Their homes would fill with laughter and reminiscing of time on the farm anytime his family had a chance to gather.
In 1978, Dan married the love of his life, Stephanie. Together, they built a life full of laughter, music, and shared strength. Dan was a proud father to his three daughters: Ursala, Lauren, and Madeline; his love for “the girls” was limitless.
He is survived by his wife, Stephanie Schwenn; his three daughters and their spouses, Ursala and Jason Hunter, Lauren and Paul Clark, and Madeline and Dan Datema; his sister, Penny Westfall; nieces and nephews; and so many family-like friends he connected with through work, pool, and his love of live music.
Dan’s legacy is that of intelligence, humor, integrity, and a deep love for family. He will be missed beyond measure and will be remembered always. Please feel free to turn up your favorite Dead album, take a long and winding drive, or laugh over a shared story and a pint to honor him. He would have appreciated the gesture.
His funeral will be a gathering of friends and family at Howe Mortuary & Crematory, Longmont on Wednesday, March 26th - 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. Food will be available and gathering may continue nearby. All are welcome.
A committal service for Daniel will be held Monday, March 31, 2025 at 1:00 PM at Center Grove Cemetery, Tarkio, MO 64491.
