Born in 1935 in Wilton, North Dakota, Sunny lived a life defined by curiosity, craftsmanship, and rhythm. He began his working years “doodle-bugging” in the oil fields as part of a geology survey team, a job that reflected his adventurous spirit and willingness to take on challenging work.
A man of many hats, Sunny later became known for his talents in woodworking, home remodeling, and painting. His skilled hands and eye for detail eventually led him to manage a custom finish wood shop, where his craftsmanship and leadership were deeply valued.
While he excelled in many trades, Sunny’s true passion was music—especially the drums. Over more than four decades, he formed and played in several bands, sharing his love of rhythm and performance with countless audiences. It was through music that he met the love of his life, Rita. They shared 65 years of marriage, built on devotion, partnership, and a deep bond that endured through the years.
Sunny is survived by his beloved wife, Rita Horton; his son, Keith Horton; his granddaughters, Brandon, Debbie, and Jessica; and several cherished great-grandchildren. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, musician, craftsman, and friend—someone who worked hard, loved deeply, and lived with rhythm in his soul.
His life was well lived, and his beat carries on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
A visitation will be held at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home, located at 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, Missouri, 64131. The visitation is scheduled for December 19, 2025, from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm.
