David was born in Kansas City, Missouri on April 21, 1956, to June M. (Enna) Smith and Paul G. Smith. He attended Redemptorist Grade School, De La Salle High School for one year, and after its closing attended Archbishop O’Hara High School-Class of 1974. He went on to University of Missouri – MIZ-ZOU! Dave also spent time at Christian Brothers College in Glencoe, Missouri and Memphis, Tennessee. David was an Eagle Scout with Troop 40. He was Fire Builder Swift Moving Firefly in the Tribe of Mic-O-Say. He became a missionary and moved to Barquisimeto near Caracas, Venezuela at the Casa Hogar Orphanage where he created a garden, raised chickens and helped the nuns care for the orphans. There were many fundraising events (taco dinners) held at Redemptorist to assist with expenses at the orphanage.
David had a large heart and always cared for others often giving away his socks, gloves, blankets and other clothing items to those less fortunate. He was a HUGE Mizzou fan, loved jazz music as well as music from the 60’s & 70’s. He also loved gardening and grew vegetables, amazing flowers and “other plants” of sorts.
