Dennis was born in Kansas City, Missouri, graduated from Oak Park High School in 1981, then earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Central Missouri in 1985. Dennis lived a life defined not by what he accumulated, but by what he gave. He had recently reached the milestone of retirement, though those who knew him well would say Dennis never truly stopped working; for him, investing in others was the work. Dennis's greatest passion was people. Whether through his beloved Scouting America or his deep commitment to the Tribe of Mic O Say, he devoted himself to building up the next generation. He was not a teacher in the classroom sense, but in every way that matters — a mentor, a guide, and a steady presence for everyone who was fortunate enough to cross his path. He never met a stranger, and his generosity and thoughtfulness left an impression that words can hardly capture.
He is survived by his devoted spouse of 36 years, Theresa Flinn; his father, Don Flinn of Gladstone, Missouri, his sister Maryhelen (Kevin) McLaughlin of Kansas City along with several nieces, nephews and great nephew. He was preceded in death by his mother, Lois Flinn, and his brother, Michael Flinn.
Visitation will be held from 10am-11am on Saturday May 16th, followed by a celebration of Dennis's life at Church of the Annunciation Community Center, 701 N Jefferson St, Kearney, MO 64060. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes memorial contributions to the Don Flinn/Danny Minnick Scouting scholarship fund Friends of Scouting - GiveKC* honoring Dennis's lifelong dedication to lifting others up.
We will be compiling a bound keepsake book of stories, memories and anecdotes to honor Dennis's life and we would be grateful if you would share your favorite stories with us in writing. Please submit them to [email protected]. He had a big personality and an even bigger heart. He will be deeply missed.
