

Donald W. McBride, 88, of Belton and Independence, MO, passed away October 14, 2012. Visitation will be held from 2:00-3:00 p.m. followed by funeral service at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, October 20, at Mt. Moriah & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Rd. Burial in Mt. Moriah Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Legion, Tirey J. Ford Post #21, 16701 US 40 Hwy., Independence, MO 64055. Mr. McBride was born March 30, 1924 in Elgin, IL, son of Thomas W. and Rosalie S. (Pierce) McBride. He served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII. Upon returning he graduated from University of Missouri with a degree in mechanical engineering. He retired from Hallmark Cards in 1986 where he had been a mechanical research engineer. He loved woodworking, fishing, photography and traveling. He and his wife Beverly enjoyed winters in south Texas for twenty years. He was a Duplicate Bridge Life Master as well as a bridge instructor. Mr. McBride was a member of the American Legion and VFW. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister. Mr. McBride is survived by his wife of 35 years, Beverly (Hull) McBride of the home; sons Chris McBride (Mary), Donal Haertl (Denette), and Jeff Hull (Rhonda); daughters Patti Shrader (Michael), Penny McBride, Janet Kirtley (Jerry) and Charna Wunder (Brian); ten grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, extended family and friends.
