

Donald (Don) Louis Shughart was born in Kansas City, Missouri, on August 12, 1926, and died on January 23, 2008. Born to Henry M. Shughart and Dora Mary O'Leary, he graduated from Rockhurst High School and attended the University of Missouri-Columbia where he received his Bachelor of Arts degree in history in 1949 and his JD degree in 1951 both from the University of Missouri-Columbia. He began his association with Shughart Thompson & Kilroy in 1951 and became a Partner in 1953. On July 25, 1953, Donald married Mary Isabel Devoy at the Immaculate Conception Church in Brookfield, MO.Don was a member of the American bar Association, Missouri Bar Association, American Judication Society; University of Missouri-Columbia Law Society; Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association; Lawyers Association of Kansas City; Defense Research Institute; International Association of Defense Counsel, an original founder of the Missouri Organization of Defense lawyers, and a member of the U.S. Tax Court. He is listed in Who's Who in American Law.Don was a past member of the St. Joseph Hospital Advisory Council, Director of Rockhurst University Planned Giving, Member, Board of Governors of the American Royal Association; Board of Directors of Homestead Country Club (1991-1994); Kansas City, Missouri Chamber of Commerce; Missouri Motor Carriers Association; Diplomats Club; Centurions Club and an Honorary Director of Rockhurst College; and member of St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church.He is survived by his wife, Mary Isabel Shughart, children, Susan Shughart Hogsett and Don Hogsett and Nancy Shughart Hoelscher and Steve Hoelscher and four grandchildren, Scott and Kate Hogsett,; Mark and Laura Goede, all of Kansas City.Reverend Terry Bruce will celebrate Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, January 26, 2008, at 1:30 p.m., at St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church. Visitation will be at 12:00 to 1:30 p.m., in the church. The burial service will be Sunday afternoon, January 27, 4:00 p.m. at St. Michael's Cemetery in Brookfield, MO.
