Donna Jane Hobick was born February 1st, 1933 in Kansas City, Missouri. She attended Faxon Grade school, Paseo High school, and William Jewell College, where she completed two years. Her favorite subjects included philosophy, psychology, debate, and geography, but her favorite subject was “Laural”. Laural and Donna married January 4th, 1953 in Liberty, Missouri. The next few years she became a mother of two sons, Mike and Steve. She loved supporting husband Laural while they traveled the country to South Carolina, California, and Arizona as he served in the U.S. Marine Corps. They settled in Illinois, working on the farm. Her hobbies included: gardening and canning, to keep her boys occupied while “Dad” was serving his country; caring for animals which at one time included Oscar the pig and Camper the cat who was the love of her life. Laural might say he took second next to Camper. While in the military they experienced square dancing and playing bridge with close friends. In her spare time she enjoyed crafts, cooking, baking, dancing, ice skating, genealogy, camping and shopping. The boys kept her busy with PTA, being a den mother, athletic events, and church activities. She loved entertaining visitors whether be friends or family, as most of you reading this have probably experienced. Laural and Donna were both the best at keeping in touch with great friends over the years, especially throughout the holidays. Donna took great pride and loved decorating for each and every holiday. Donna was very proud of the two houses built with their blood, sweat and tears. One being the farm house in Cleveland, Missouri where she enjoyed farming, mowing, and raising the boys. The other being the lake house in Osage Beach, Missouri, “It was our hide-a-way and peace”, where she enjoyed boating, the water fountain Laural had built for her, the landscaping, and hosting for many friends and family who came to share a visit. Donna also had the privilege of not only being the mother of her boys and being involved in their sports , but being the coaches wife, where she took great pride and never missed a game.
Donna Jane Hobick was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She loved life and was extremely supportive of family and friends. Her dedicated work experience brought her lots of great planning techniques, patience, and learning to be organized which kept them involved in many adventures in life. Donna’s honesty and caring has gifted her with many great friends over the years. Although the family didn’t have much money, they always had what they needed due to her great and smart bookkeeping skills that lead to a wonderful, adventurous life. She was so smart with the family money that they were able to travel and vacation from coast to coast, not missing one state along their many journeys. Those journeys included anything from exploring lighthouses to discovering covered bridges, visiting the many friends from across the country. One thing that was always close to Donna’ heart was God, and all He created. At the end of the day, family was the most important thing to Donna. So at the end of her life fulfilled journey, spending her last and final days with her family by her side, she took her final breath. “Life’s story is as quick as the wink of an eye. . .love’s story is merely hello and goodbye. . .until we meet again. . .
She was preceded in death by her mother Pearl E. Svensson, father James W. Coons, and cousin Babe, who was cared for later in life by Laural and Donna. She is survived by her husband Laural Hobick; son Micheal and wife Joy; son Steven and wife Adrienne; grandchildren Jennfer and husband Glenn, Jason and wife Jenny, Jamie and husband Blake, Lauren and Abby; great-grandchildren Landon, Emma, Jackson, Harper and Brooklyn; and many friends that are family.
