Doris Ruth Smith, 80, of Independence, MO passed away on January 20, 2015. Visitation will be Friday January 23 at First Christian Church of Blue Springs from 6-8pm. Services will be Saturday January 24 at First Christian Church of Blue Springs at 10am with burial to follow at Floral Hills. Doris was born February 12, 1934 to Lillian Webb and Lysle Showalter. She was a graduate of East High School. She married George Smith on June 4, 1954 and they lived in the Independence/ Blue Springs area all of their lives. Doris was a passionate quilter, reader, loved to travel, walk in nature, and spend time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a member of Fairmount Christian Church and First Christian Church of Blue Springs. She is preceded in death by her husband, George Smith in 2007. She is survived by her daughter, Christy (George) Donner, of Grain Valley, MO; son, Steve (Gloria) Smith, Blue Springs, MO; grandchildren, Rebecca (Bransen) Hyde, Andrew (Jessica) Donner, Stephanie (Chris) Smith, and Georgianna Smith; 2 great grandchildren, Brayden Hyde and Alaric Donner. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Alzheimer’s Association.
