Dorothy M. Mustin

Dorothy Mustin was born on May 20, 1932, to the union of Iva and Myrtle Tate, who both preceded her in death. Dorothy had four siblings; two brothers, Robert and Edward Tate, and two sisters, Iva Jean Wheeler, and Shirley Peters, who all preceded her in death.

Dorothy went to elementary school at Wendell Phillips; she graduated from RT Coles/Lincoln High school in Kansas City, MO. Dorothy attended and graduated as an RN at General Hospital #2, Kansas City, MO. Dorothy loved the medical field and continued her education at General Hospital in anesthesia and graduated.

Dorothy worked at VA Medical Center for 35 years as an anesthesiologist before retirement. Dorothy would pray with each patient before surgery, and with God’s help, “She never lost a patient.” This is a true testimony of Dorothy’s life; she was very nurturing. Dorothy volunteered at the Salvation Army every Thanksgiving and Christmas for 28 years, George Melcher Elementary school, and Seton Center until her health failed her.

Dorothy danced with a community praise team under the direction of Opal Blankenship at many different events, which was one of her favorite pastimes. Her other one was spending time with family. Dorothy was a faithful member of St. Monica Catholic Church under the current leadership of Father Leonard Gicheru. She enjoyed attending services and other events with many of her dear friends. Dorothy served on several committees until her health failed her.

Dorothy was married to Clyde Mustin for 54 years, who preceded her in death. She leaves to cherish her memory her only son Gaylord (Rosalind) Mustin; three grandsons, Gerren (Brandi) Mustin, Dominique Haynes, Malcolm Mustin; two granddaughters, Carmesha McGautha and Gene’e Mustin; fifteen great-grandchildren and a host of nephews, nieces, and friends.

A Celebration of Life for Dorothy will be held Monday, October 10, 2022 from 11:00am to 12:00pm at Mt. Moriah, Newcomer & Freeman Funeral Home, 10507 Holmes Road, Kansas City, Missouri 64131. A Committal service will follow in Mount Moriah Cemetery South.
