Edna was born August 4, 1929, in Kansas City, MO to Lyle C. Riley and Grace M. Cox.
She married Brownell Wayne Landes on June 10, 1951, at the Linwood Methodist Church in Kansas City and was his devoted wife for 64 years until his passing in 2015.
Edna managed all her children’s many activities, including swim team, football, basketball, and horse shows. She spent many summer days camping, boating, fishing, and water skiing with her family, along with their great friends the Dalton and Conner families. In later years she and Brownie attended hundreds of her grandchildren’s sports and music events.
She was a devoted member of The Order of Rainbow Girls, Grand Cross, Sagamore Chapter DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution), and a 60 year member of Colonial Presbyterian Church where she was involved with the Prime Timers and Circle Groups. Edna was an artist – her many original paintings and hand-painted Christmas ornaments are displayed in her friends and families’ homes. She was always busy making unique birthday cakes for her grandchildren.
Edna was preceded in death by her parents, Lyle and Grace Riley, husband Brownell W. Landes, son Brion E. Landes, son Dr. Bruce W. Landes, sister Bonnie Whitfill, and twin brother Edward Riley.
She is survived by daughters Sharon Veskerna (Don Kent) and Diane Adam (Jim); daughters-in-law, Debra Landes and Jeannie Landes; along with 8 grandchildren, Jessica Chhatre, Ashley Senkowski (Mike), Danielle Cross (Andrew), Austin Adam (Kaitlyn), Riley Adam (Lindsay), Trevor Adam, Kaitlin Smith (Garrett) and Sam Landes (Allison); and 12 great grandchildren, Shaan & Maya Chhatre, Ray, Lilly, & Otis Senkowski, Evelyn & Meyer Cross, Colt & MaKenna Adam, Judah & Emry Smith and Brion Landes, II.
Family and friends will celebrate Edna’s life starting with a visitation at 11 a.m. and funeral services at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 16, 2023, at Colonial Presbyterian Church, 9500 Wornall Road, Kansas City, MO. A reception/luncheon will follow in the Fellowship Hall. Graveside service will be held following the reception at 3 p.m. at Mount Moriah Cemetery, 10507 Holmes Road Kansas City, MO. For friends who wish to make a memorial contribution, Edna has chosen to honor the KC Pet Project and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
