Edwin Gene Williams

Edwin “Ed” Gene Williams, age 86, of Overland Park, Kansas passed away on Saturday, July 23, 2022 at Research Medical Center in Kansas City, Missouri. Ed was born on November 4, 1935 in Everton, Arkansas. He graduated in 1953 from St. Joe High School in St. Joe, Arkansas and then attended Arkansas State University-Beebe in Beebe, Arkansas where he played basketball. He later attended the University of Missouri-Kansas City . On July 20, 1957, Ed married Wanda Lea Taylor and the couple resided in Independence, Missouri for fifty years. They celebrated their 65th anniversary just three days prior to his death. Ed worked at Armco Steel for thirty-one years before retiring in 1988 and later worked for the Raytown, Missouri School District. He enjoyed sports, country music and good food. Ed was an amazing friend and loved to tell a good story.

Ed was preceded in death by his parents, Garland and Faye (Heath) Williams and his sister, Juanita (Williams) Mathis.

Ed is survived by his wife Wanda L. (Taylor) Williams, son Kevin G. Williams of Silverthorne, Colorado, daughter Tammy A. (Williams) Schrader of Overland Park, Kansas, sister Linda L. (Williams) Rorie of Kansas City, Missouri, granddaughter Elizabeth A. Schrader of Overland Park, Kansas, and grandson Evan J. Schrader of Overland Park, Kansas.

No service is immediately planned. The family has set up a memorial page at forevermissed.com where details of a future celebration of life will be published when the time comes. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to the American Heart Association.
