Eleanor Katherine Heisey, 101, passed away peacefully in her home on Tuesday, May 3, 2022. Eleanor was born April 29, 1921 in Boone, Iowa to Augustus and Anna Sparks. She graduated from Boone High School in 1938 and was violin soloist at the Commencement service. She earned a B.A. degree from Iowa State Teachers College and was a member of the Sigma Alpha Iota sorority. She taught one year, then to help with the war effort, she worked for the Office of War Information as a radioteletype operator in San Francisco, California until World War 2 ended. She moved to Kansas City and was then employed at the General Motors office in Leeds. She married Paul M. Heisey and they moved to Raytown. Eleanor was the organist at the Countryside United Methodist Church for 33 years (later renamed One Spirit U.M.C.), the First U.M. Church of Raytown for two years, and six years at Faith Presbyterian Church, then substituted at numerous churches and retired in 2007.
She also was an accompanist for two Raytown high schools vocal concerts and district contests and was a violinist in the former Raytown Civic Symphony. She was a member of the One Spirit United Methodist Church, and the church's United Methodist Women organization.
Eleanor enjoyed her family and friends, reading, travel, and concerts. She loved working on solving crossword puzzles, cryptograms, and other puzzle games. She had been to Canada several times, to Alaska, Hawaii, and Europe, where she visited Beethoven's grave.
She was preceded in death by her husband Paul and sons Philip and Stephen, two brothers, George and infant Edward Sparks, and two sisters, Edna Sparks and Arlene DeMerritt, three sister-in-laws and 2 brother-in-laws.
She is survived by sons, John Heisey of Grandview and Mark Heisey, of Raytown, three nieces and four nephews.
A visitation will be held from 9-10 am, with service at 10 am, on Thursday, May 12, at Floral Hills Funeral Home, 7000 Blue Ridge Blvd, Kansas City, MO 64133.
