A Celebration of Life Mass is 10: 15 am at the chapel of Our Lady of Mercy Country Home, 2115 Maturana Dr., Liberty, MO. Burial will be in Mount Saint Mary’s Cemetery, Kansas City, MO. In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested to the Mercedarian Missionaries Retirement Fund.
Sr. Elena was born in Vitoria, Spain, on February 16, 1932 to Ricardo and Elena López de Uralde. She was educated in the Vera Cruz schools of the Mercedarians in Victoria, Spain. She entered the Mercedarian Missionaries of Berriz on February 10, 1953. Before coming to the United States in 1962, she taught in Vera Cruz schools in Bilbao and Vitoria, Spain. She was also the Novice Assistant at the Mother House in Berriz.
She graduated from Mount St. Scholastica in Atchison, KS. In 1967. She was missioned to Troy, N.Y. to teach arts and crafts at the Sunnyside Center as well as commute to teach art at Mount St. Vincent College in N.Y. City. She returned to Kansas City in 1980 and taught ceramics at Our Lady of Mercy Home in Kansas City, Cathedral Square Towers and later at our Lady of Mercy Country Home in Liberty, MO.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Ricardo and Elena López de Uralde, sisters Lola Jauregui and Ana Salcedo. She leaves in Spain a cousin, Sr. Isabel López de Uralde, MMB, nieces and nephews and her Mercedarian Sisters in Liberty, MO and throughout the world.
