Elizabeth LeChien, 98, passed away Saturday, October 5, 2019, at John Knox Village Hospice. She was born on June 30, 1921, in Pittsburg, Kansas, to John L. Wright and Mattie B. (Feagans) Wright. She graduated from Pittsburg High School and attended Kansas State Teacher’s College (now Pittsburg State University) and received a teaching certificate. She taught briefly in a school in rural Kansas. She married the love of her life E. L. (Louie) LeChien on August 1, 1942, in Joplin, Missouri, and they were married 67 years. Elizabeth and Louie lived in Enid, Oklahoma, Salina, Pittsburg, Joplin, Springfield, Illinois, St. Louis, Missouri, Kansas City, finally settling in Raytown. Her son Jon was born in Pittsburg in 1945; her daughter Mary Elizabeth was born in 1952 in Kansas City. Elizabeth was a homemaker for many years but also had a career as a retail store manager for Harzfelds, a women’s and children’s high-end clothing store, in Kansas City. After retirement, she and her daughter owned Fashion Corner, a women’s clothing boutique, in Lee’s Summit.
She was predeceased by her husband, Louie, her parents, her two brothers T.J. “Bud” Wright of Pittsburg, and Warren Wright of Fountain Valley, California, and her daughter, Mary of Lee’s Summit in 2014.
She is survived by her son, Jon and his wife Kathy, three granddaughters, Jenny (Jeff) Reid, Tracye (Ron) Betzler, and Joanie (Chet) Smith, thirteen great-grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren, five nephews and their families.
Elizabeth was a member of Raytown Christian Church, Four Seasons, and the Adam and Eve class.
Services will be held at Floral Hills Funeral Home, 7000 Blue Ridge Blvd, Kansas City, Missouri, at 11:00 am on Thursday, October 10. Visitation will be from 9:00-11:00 at the funeral home.
