Born on July 6, 1929 in Kansas City, Missouri, Enedina was taken to Mexico during the Great Depression along with her brothers and sister. She later returned to Kansas City to reunite with her older brothers, determined to build a better life. Largely self-taught, Enedina learned to read, write, and speak English. She began working at a young age and faithfully helped provide for her loved ones, including family members who remained in Mexico. This was a testament of her selflessness and determination that would define her life.
In 1962, Enedina married Earl Shryer, and together they welcomed and raised their family. Though their marriage later ended, Enedina continued to move through life with strength, independence, and grace, guided by her unwavering faith and dedication to her family.
Throughout her life, Enedina worked as a seamstress, spent many years as a devoted stay-at-home mother, and later returned to work as a mender. Her hands were always busy whether sewing, cooking in the kitchen, tending to her garden, or lifting her voice in song as a member of the church choir.
Faith was a cornerstone of Enedina’s life. She was a founding and lifelong member of El Buen Pastor Mexican Baptist Church. She found joy and purpose in her church community and cherished time spent in worship and service. Above all, she loved being surrounded by her family and took great pride in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were a constant source of joy in her later years. Enedina will be remembered for her quiet strength, loving spirit, and unwavering dedication to those she held dear.
Enedina was preceded in death by her father, Antonio Vargas Pecina, and mother, Luisa Pecina (Carreon); her former husband, Earl Willard Shryer; her son, Earl Dean Shryer; and ten siblings, Arturo, Laura, Jacob, Jovita, Lucio, Isaias, Minerva, Antonio, Jose Luis and Victor Hugo.
She is survived by her sister, Olivia Lopez (Pecina); her daughter, Elvia Farley; her grandchildren, Monique (Lee) Groninger, Ashley Floyd (Ismael), Jesse Shryer (Corina), and Alyssa (Jesse) Allen; nine great-grandchildren; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
