

Eugene was educated in the Kansas City, Missouri school district, receiving his General Education Diploma (GED) and furthering his education to receive certifications in the profession of Plumbing. He held various positions of employment throughout his lifetime, but eventually pursued a career in the field of plumbing. Eugene loved to work with his hands, and plumbing was his passion. He persevered to become an entrepreneur and started Avis Plumbing in Wichita, KS. He later met and married Cherlene Avis on July 31, 1999.
Eugene was a free-spirited person and never met a stranger as he befriended many. He was the type of person that never gave up easily on anything in life. He loved to cook and knew how to make his way around a kitchen. Eugene was an avid chess and pool player and also enjoyed working on cars, becoming a very good mechanic. He took pride in all the work he did! He was even the handyman around Grace Chapel Church of Christ in Wichita, KS where he was baptized, and a longtime member. Eugene loved Colorado and eventually decided to call Denver home, where he resided for the remainder of his life.
Eugene was preceded in death by his mother, Lennie B. Avis, father, Eugene Avis, Sr., brothers, David Smith, Richard Smith, Baron Avis, and sister, Lacana Avis. He leaves to cherish his memories, wife, Cherlene Avis, Wichita, KS; daughter, Tajia Avis, Kansas City, MO; stepdaughters, Vickie Whaley, and Valincia Whaley, Wichita, KS; stepson, Vernie Whaley, Minneapolis, MN; brother, Craig Smith, Aurora, CO; sisters, Darlene Sandy, Katy, TX, LaCretia Stewart, Aurora, CO, Nicolle Stokes (Steven), Kansas City, MO, and Christina Avis, Kansas City, MO and a host of other family, friends and loved ones.
Eugene was deeply loved and will truly be missed.
