

Eugene (Gene) Emil Graber, 71, of Emporia passed away after an unexpected illness at the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City on Tuesday, August 13, 2024. He was surrounded by friends and family.
Gene was born in Kingman, KS on May 29, 1953, the son of Gilbert E and Dorothy L (Albright) Graber. Gene married Cindy Merwin in Kinsley, KS on August 3, 1974.
Surviving family members include, daughter, Jennifer of Ottawa, KS, a brother Louis Graber of Pretty Prairie, KS and several cousins and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Cindy and both parents.
Gene worked at Modine Manufacturing for many years before the plant shut down. He retired from Stanion Electric in July 2019. Gene attended Hutchinson Community College, Wichita State University and Emporia State University. Gene was an active member of the Emporia Friends of the Library board. He had many hobbies including restoring model trains, woodworking and working in his yard.
Cremation is planned and a celebration of life service will be planned for a later date. Memorial contributions to either the Emporia Friends of the Library or the Emporia Friends of the Zoo can be made in his name.
