She was born may, 25 1928, in Albany, MO., the daughter of Daniel Hobert McGinley and Connie Zike. She was preceded in death by Leonard Leo Dunnigan on February 24, 1963 her loving husband of eight years. Her brother's Howard and wife Louise McGinley, Homer and wife Emily McGinley, and sister Clarissa Bruce.
Philippians 4:13 "I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me" was Evelyn's favorite scripture. She tried to follow these words everyday of her life. When she was twelve she contracted polio and only made it through the 6th grade. She underwent treatment and had to learn to walk with braces on her legs. Even with her many obstacles she was determined to live a full life.
In the back of a Capper's weekly she saw an advertisement for re weaving classes and decided to leave Albany for Kansas City MO. There she learned to weave and eventually got her first job at Mrs. Wrights company, Marvel Weavers. Later on she got a job with Wardrobe Cleaners and since she could not drive yet she always called a cab which, is how she met her future husband Leonard. It was love at first sight because on January 30, 1955 they were married at Oakland Methodist Church. They had two daughters Angela and Pamela but unfortunately, Leonard passed away eight years later.
Evelyn was now faced with raising 2 children as a single woman in 1963. Leonard had taught her to drive and she had now become a teacher of re weaving at Wardrobe Cleaners. She was able to purchase a home in Sugar Creek MO, where she raised her family for several years. In this home she was a Sunday school teacher, GA leader, a Youth for Christ leader, a homemaker, a breadwinner, and mom to everyone.
When Evelyn was 59 she started her own business "Independence Weavers" on 23rd Street and continued to work into her 70's. She spent time traveling with her brother and enjoying her family. She was the family matriarch continuing to be a Christian example to everyone she met. In 2007 she moved to South View Manor where she made new friends, attended Bethel Baptist Church, enjoyed bingo, playing canasta, and spending time with her family until her passing.
Those who will cherish her memory forever include her brother's Melt Jorden, Mel Jorden, Larry Jorden, and her sister Connie Haynes. Her two daughters Angela Briner and Pamela Dunnigan, her 7 grand children Cynthia Pritchard, Christy Grindstaff, David Dunnigan, Christopher Conner, Matthew Dunnigan, Sarah Dunnigan, and Elizabeth Warren. 14 great grand children, Erin Wittren, Robbie Dunnigan, Mitchell Pritchard, Samantha Pritchard, David Jr. Dunnigan, Nick Carter, Kaitlynn Dunnigan, Abby Pritchard, Conner Grindstaff, Emily Pritchard, Gabriel Warren, Isaiah Warren, Daniel Pritchard, and Olivia Pritchard.
